Remove Powered by Shopify

Reading time: 2 minutes

Does the "Powered by Shopify" in the footer of your store bother you? No problem, we show you how you can easily remove it.

How to remove Powered by Shopify?

There are two ways to remove Powered by Shopify, one variant adjusts the website code, the other simply replaces the text with a blank space.

Remove Powereed by Shopify with code

In the Shopify admin panel, go to Online Store → Themes.

2. search for the theme you want to edit (your active theme).

Click on Edit Code.

Click on the file footer.liquid in the directory sections.

Use the key combination ctrl+F or command+F depending on your operating system to find the liquid tag in the code:

{{ powered_by_link }}

Save your change.

Powered by Shopify remove with language variable

By this method you replace the text with a space, so the change by code is a bit cleaner, but here you don't have to worry about the code.

In the Shopify admin panel, go to Online Store → Themes.

Click Actions → Edit Languages.

3. search in the Search for translations field for Powered by Shopify.

4. insert a space in this field.

Repeat the step for the Powered by Shopify HTML field.

Save your changes.

As an alternative to the space character, you can also add another text.

Why most online stores remove the lettering

While the "Powered by Shopify" lettering is preserved by default in every Shopify store, most of the time it is no longer found in the footer. This is due to the fact that companies usually remove the lettering before publication.

Companies want customers to associate their store with the brand, Shopify advertising has no place on the site and is rather detrimental to the professional appearance. That's why you rarely see "Powered by Shopify".

Should you remove Powered by Shopify?

As a Shopify agency, we advise you to remove the lettering. As already mentioned, it rather harms your brand. Because there are so few Shopify stores with the lettering, customers tend to see it as a sign of ignorance. However, with our guide, you should have no problems removing Powered by Shopify quite easily.
