BY SHOPWARE
ABOUT SHOPIFY
Gründl creates creative projects using wool and yarns. The range combines a variety of materials and colours with knitting kits, patterns and seasonal inspiration. To turn an idea into your very own knitted piece, all these elements need to come together in the online shop.
For Gründl, we completely redesigned their existing website and migrated the online shop from Shopware to Shopify. The project involved transferring product data, URL and SEO migration, and configuring Strickset. Even after the relaunch, we continue to support Gründl in the long term with the further development of the online shop.

The challenges
The switch from Shopware to Shopify involved technology, content and purchasing all at once. The new platform had to reliably display the product range and allow scope for a completely revamped design.
At Gründl, materials, colours and variants are at the heart of the product range. These relationships had to be preserved during the data migration and adapted to the structure of the new Shopify shop.
A relaunch often changes the site structure. That is why existing URLs, appropriate redirects and SEO requirements were part of the migration from the outset – to ensure that the path to the new product and category pages was also taken into account.
The size, yarn colour and pattern format must all match within a set. The configuration should clearly summarise these choices and show which combination is currently selected.
A beautiful knitted piece makes you want to have a go yourself. The new design therefore had to combine project inspiration with the right products and make it easier to get started with the actual selection process.
The project wasn’t complete once the switch to Shopify had been made. Gründl needed a partner who was familiar with the new shop and could continue to develop it, both technically and in terms of design, whilst it was up and running.
Our solutions
We planned the redesign and platform migration together: the new design was intended to reflect the brand whilst making the most of Shopify’s capabilities for the Gründl range. Categories and product pages provide guidance; project images and knitting kits illustrate the journey from discovery to creating your own combination.
At the same time, we adapted the product data, URL structure and SEO migration to the new shop. A key element was the knitting kit configuration: this links the selection of size, yarn colour and pattern format directly to the product. Since the relaunch, we have continued our collaboration through long-term support.

The result
Gründl has switched from Shopware to Shopify with a completely redesigned shop. Product data, the retention of existing URLs and the Strickset configuration were implemented as part of a joint relaunch project.
The new shop combines inspiration for a craft project with the selection of the relevant products. Our long-term support ensures that our collaboration continues beyond the change of platform.
