Shopify agencies in Germany: a comparison of 25 providers
As at 6 November 2026 · Publisher: Golden Web Age
Are you looking for a Shopify agency to help with a new shop, a system migration or the further development of your existing shop? If so, it’s worth defining the scope of the project in more detail first. A migration involves different tasks to integrating an ERP system or optimising a product page.
This comparison showcases 25 Shopify agencies in Germany. The scorecard sets out publicly available characteristics and the criteria behind them; the brief profiles categorise the services offered. You’ll also find questions for the initial consultation and tips to help you compare quotes on a level playing field.
Rankings and scores: a comparison of 25 Shopify agencies
Which agencies publish specific project results, offer A/B testing or disclose their prices? The table compares 25 providers based on ten criteria. You can find the weightings and the rules for awarding points directly below.
How to read the table
The order is determined by the total number of points awarded. In the event of a tie, the points for results cases (K4) are used to break the tie, followed by customer testimonials (K3) and range of services (K6). If these values are also equal, the providers share a position and are listed one below the other in alphabetical order. The next position is skipped accordingly.
0 with an asterisk (0*) means: No relevant evidence was found on the pages checked. This does not mean that the agency does not offer the service. 0 without an asterisk means: The specified threshold was not met, such as the minimum number of Google reviews. — Indicates an individual item that cannot be assessed, for example where sources are contradictory or a clear assignment is lacking. Only for this criterion are no points awarded; substantiated information relating to other criteria still counts towards the total. In each case, the highest substantiated level for a criterion is taken into account. Clicking on a score takes you to the supporting evidence; clicking on the agency name takes you to its brief profile. For K2, ‘Evidence 2’ provides supplementary evidence regarding the current management or the agency’s foundation.

Criteria and weighting
| Criterion | Maximum points | Award rule |
|---|---|---|
| K1: Agency work | 15 | Verified start date of agency activity (as at 2026): up to 2017 = 15 points; 2018–2019 = 12; 2020–2021 = 9; 2022–2023 = 6; 2024–2025 = 3; 2026 = 0. Any verifiable previous work as an agency counts towards this total. |
| K2: Founders in operational management | 10 | 10 points if at least one of the founders continues to be actively involved in the business as a managing director or owner. |
| K3: Specific customer testimonials | 15 | 15 points for a customer video credited by name, 8 for a voice-over on your own website; points are not added together. |
| K4: Case with result figure | 15 | 15 points for a specific case study citing concrete figures for conversion rates, turnover, basket value or revenue per user. |
| K5: A/B testing | 10 | 10 points for publicly available A/B tests or a documented test case. |
| K6: Range of services | 10 | 10 points for shop development, conversion optimisation, SEO and UX/UI; 5 points for three of these four areas. |
| K7: Shopify Partner Level | 10 | Platinum 10, Premier 8, Plus 6, Select or Partner 4 points. Where possible, the current Shopify tier should be used as a guide. |
| K8: Award or Speaker | 5 | 5 points for a documented award or a verified speaking engagement. |
| K9: Google reviews | 5 | 5 points with a minimum rating of 4.8 stars and at least 20 reviews; both thresholds must be verified directly with Google. |
| K10: Public sector agency prices | 5 | 5 points for specific prices, price ranges or packages on your own website; platform fees and third-party portal budgets do not count. |
A total of 100 points can be achieved. For customer reviews, the highest verified status counts; for Shopify, the verified partner level counts. For Google reviews, both the star rating and the minimum number of reviews must be met; reviews from other platforms do not count towards this.
K5 covers tests offered in the shop as well as advert tests. eBakery features Amazon advert split tests, whilst Kombinat features advert A/B tests. No specific Shopify test case can be derived from these. K10 also includes published prices for individual agency services such as audits; these do not constitute a price comparison for complete Shopify projects.
Sources and context
Golden Web Age publishes this comparison and is itself included in it. The same criteria apply to all providers. The data is based on publicly available information on agency websites, in legal notices and company profiles, in the Shopify Partner Directory, and from organisers of awards and conferences. The sources are linked in the table.
The scoring system evaluates published features. The weighting is determined by our editorial team; practical test assignments or client interviews are not included in the assessment. Client testimonials and performance figures are taken from the linked publications and have not been independently verified. In the case of a performance case study, it is the documented figure that counts, not proof that the agency alone was responsible for the success.
The score helps you compare the providers’ profiles. When making your choice, the key factors to consider are similar projects, the proposed team and a proposal that meets your requirements. A young team or an agency working on confidential client projects may be a good technical fit, even if the scoring system awards fewer points for this.
Regarding the classification of individual details: For Codext, K1 also takes into account the agency’s documented previous activities; a distinction is made between this and the date on which the current GmbH was incorporated. For Eshop Guide, K7 refers to the Shopify profile for shop migration and agency services. The separate profile for apps and integrations is assigned a different level.

Which Shopify agency is right for your project?
Three questions are enough for an initial shortlist: What needs to change? Which systems and processes are affected? What should your team be able to take on themselves later on?
| Your project | You should check this specifically during the interview |
|---|---|
| Launch a new shop | What features can be implemented using the chosen theme? What will be developed bespoke? Who will provide product data, text and images? |
| Switching from another shop platform to Shopify | What data will be transferred? How will existing URLs and redirects be handled? How will the test migration, acceptance testing and switchover take place? |
| Integrating with inventory management or other systems | Which system holds which data? How are stock levels, prices and orders transferred? Who deals with interface errors? |
| Improving an existing shop | How is the problem investigated? What data is required? How are changes prioritised and their outcomes reviewed? |
| Serving business customers or other countries | What are the requirements regarding prices, customer accounts, languages, payments and dispatch? Which of these depend on the chosen Shopify plan or additional apps? |
Ask potential service providers for a project example that is similar to your requirements. Ask them to explain which tasks the agency carried out itself in that project. A shop cited as a reference alone doesn’t tell you much about whether the team was responsible for design, development, marketing or just a small part of the project.
When it comes to optimisation projects, it’s worth asking one further question: How does the agency distinguish between an observed improvement and a reliably measured effect? Ask them to explain the measurement period, the baseline and the approach. For A/B tests, they should be able to justify whether visitor numbers and expected effects are suitable for a test that can be carried out in a meaningful way. You can find an insight into our approach on the conversion optimisation page.
How to compare the costs of a Shopify agency
It is only the scope of services that makes a quote comparable. A shop based on an existing theme is a different project to a migration involving multiple data sources, bespoke functions and an integrated stock management system.
Please ask the agencies to show these positions separately:
- Planning: workshops, requirements analysis, technical design and project management.
- Implementation: Design, theme customisation, bespoke development and interfaces.
- Data and content: migration, product maintenance, text, images and redirects.
- Testing and handover: functional testing, fault rectification, training and documentation.
- Ongoing costs: Shopify subscription, apps, external systems and, where applicable, support and further development.
Also clarify how any additional requests will be invoiced. If a fixed price is agreed, it should be clear which services and rounds of revisions are included. If invoicing is on a time-and-materials basis, a transparent estimate, regular cost breakdowns and an agreed approval process for additional work will be helpful.
A practical comparison: one quote states ‘migration included’, whilst another lists data transfer, redirects and test migration as separate items. Ask the first provider which of these tasks are actually included before you compare the total prices.
How to compare quotes and working arrangements
Give all agencies the same briefing
Describe the current shop system, your product range, the countries involved and the key systems integrated with it. Include the features that are absolutely essential for the launch, as well as the budget and your preferred deadline. This will ensure that the agencies can all respond to the same requirements.
Talk about the specific project team
Find out who your point of contact is and who is responsible for design, development and project management. Also ask about collaboration with external partners and how decisions and queries are documented.
Let us explain the process leading up to the final inspection
A proposal should set out the sequence of steps and where you need to be involved. This includes, for example, design approvals, the provision of product data and test orders. Agree on how errors are to be recorded and the criteria against which you will approve the implementation.
Make sure you allow enough time after the start
Ask about the level of support immediately following the launch and about ongoing support. Who will respond to errors? What response times have been agreed? How will new tasks be prioritised? Ask for clarification on whether, and to what extent, an ongoing contract is required for this.
Clarify admissions and handover procedures
Set out who holds the relevant accounts, what access your team will have, and how individual progress will be documented. The handover to other service providers should also be discussed in the quotation. This way, you’ll know at an early stage what documents and information you’ll receive at the end of the project.
Frequently asked questions about Shopify agencies
Which Shopify agency is the best?
A general list of winners does not tell you which agency is right for your project. The key factors are comparable project experience, the services required, a clear quotation and the team that will actually be carrying out your work. Use the profiles to shortlist candidates and then discuss your specific project with several providers.
Do I actually need an agency for Shopify?
That depends on your requirements and your team’s skills. First, assess which tasks you can handle yourself and where you’re lacking in time or specialist knowledge. You can seek support for an entire project or for individual tasks, such as design, migration, integrations or shop optimisation. The Shopify Partner Directory allows you to search for a range of services.
How can I tell if someone has experience with Shopify Plus?
Ask for suitable Shopify Plus projects and get the agency to explain its specific role within them. Ask specifically about the features and integrations you need. You can also check the partner tier in the official Shopify directory; however, this is no substitute for a detailed project discussion. Shopify has announced changes to the partner programme with effect from 1 January 2027. You should therefore refer to Shopify’s current guidance if you wish to classify the tiers.
How long does a Shopify project take?
A reliable schedule requires a clearly defined scope. Ask for a breakdown of the individual phases and how they relate to one another: concept, design, development, data migration, testing and handover. Make sure to ask explicitly what content, approvals and access rights your team needs to provide, and by when. Also, compare the proposed project start date with the desired publication date.
Does the agency have to be based near me?
Decide this based on the type of collaboration you require. If on-site workshops or consultations are important, their scope and any travel costs should be included in the quote. For remote collaboration, you should clarify the frequency of meetings, availability and shared documentation.
How reliable are reviews and case studies?
Reviews provide insights into individual customer experiences. Case studies describe selected projects from the provider’s perspective. In both cases, consider how they relate to your own project. When looking at performance figures, you should know what was measured, over what period, and what other measures were running at the same time. Don’t assume that a published result will apply to your own shop.
