How can you remove ‘Powered by Shopify’?

There are two ways to remove ‘Powered by Shopify’; one method modifies the website’s code, whilst the other simply replaces the text with a space.

Removing ‘Powered by Shopify’ using code

1. In the Shopify admin, go to Online Shop → Themes.

2. Find the theme you want to edit (your active theme).

3. Click on ‘Edit code’.

4. In the ‘Sections’ folder, click on the file ‘footer.liquid’.

5. Use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+F or Command+F, depending on your operating system, to find the Liquid tag in the code:

6. Save your changes.

Remove ‘Powered by Shopify’ using a language variable

With this method, you replace the text with a space, so the change via code is a bit neater; on the other hand, you don’t need to worry about the code here.

1. In the Shopify admin, go to Online Shop → Themes.

2. Click on Actions → Edit languages.

3. In the ‘Search for translations’ field, search for ‘Powered by Shopify’.

4. Enter a space in this field.

5. Repeat the step for the ‘Powered by Shopify HTML’ field.

6. Save your changes.

As an alternative to a space, you can also add some other text.

Why most online shops remove the lettering

Although the ‘Powered by Shopify’ logo appears by default in every Shopify shop, it is usually no longer to be found in the footer. This is because businesses usually remove the logo before the shop goes live.

Businesses want customers to associate their shop with their brand; Shopify advertising has no place on the site and actually detracts from the professional image. That is why you very rarely see ‘Powered by Shopify’.

Should you remove ‘Powered by Shopify’?
